I’m reading through Acts 1. “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses …. to the ends of the earth.” Cool verse. We all dig that one. How many times do you hear people chant “more power Lord!” You may be fond of requesting more power yourself. As I read through that verse Holy Spirit highlighted the word “witness” to me. Look the definition of that word up. OK boss. Witness: A person who sees an event. Synonyms: Observer, onlooker, eyewitness, spectator, viewer, watcher, bystander, passerby. Oh, so when Holy Spirit comes upon us we will observe God’s power manifest. It’s not our power we are wielding. We are just a spectator. A witness to the power. The gate the King of Glory comes through. It reminds me of another verse.
Luke 12:11-12 When you are brought before the synagogues, rulers, and authorities, do not worry about how to defend yourselves or what to say. For at that time the Holy Spirit will teach you what to say.”
I’m sure you have had that moment when Holy Spirit shows up and you are amazed at the words that are coming out of your mouth? Or watched something orchestrate around you and seemingly through you and you felt like you were just a spectator to the event. Well guess what … that is because you kind of are. It wasn’t by your skills or your righteousness that you were a witness. It is by the favor of the Lord over you. There, that should take the pressure off you having to perform.
We are coming into a season where we are going to see God’s power manifest like we have never before. Be ready to be a witness. Don’t just ask for more power. Ask to be grown in favor with God and Man and the power will be a side effect of your relationship with God.
